Three weeks ago today Miranda Oldroyd was in a pretty bad car accident (t-boned by a guy doing 40mph). The hospital that originally treated her sent her away with a splinted broken hand and “whiplash”, but never took x-rays on her neck. Not knowing it, she spent two and a half weeks walking around with a BROKEN NECK (c2 fractured in two places).

Thanks to her hand doctor, who we are now forever indebted to, it was discovered that there was a possible issue. He didn’t like the way she was moving around and talking about the pain in her neck, so he ordered an x-ray himself (again, something the emergency room should have done where she was first taken … strange to you too?? Yeah!!). He was right, we had a HUGE problem on our hands. Her neck was incredibly unstable, and one wrong move, trip and fall, little fender bender, and she could have been paralyzed for the rest of her life.

Dr. Bhuva, her hand doctor, put us in touch with the best brain/spinal neurosurgeon in San Jose. She had to have her c2 and c3 vertebrae fused together, but things went well, and it looks like she should be able to make a full recovery.

Every doctor we talked to said the only reason she survived, or isn’t paralyzed today, is because she’s so damn strong. I’ve never been more happy that my bride has a love for heavy barbells. CrossFit LITERALLY saved her life. That’s amazing
