Work Out of the Day
In the CrossFit community we do hero workouts to honor and celebrate the life of military, police, and firefighters that were crossfitters and were killed in the line of duty. Randy is a hero workout we have done many times over the years. (click here to see last time we completed it) Please take a few minutes to watch the video below about Randall Simmons. He was a hero in many ways and had a huge positive impact on his community.

Officer Randal David Simmons, a 27-year veteran of the LAPD, was murdered in the line of duty on Thursday, February 7, 2008. Officer Simmons became the first LAPD SWAT officer to die in the line of duty.
Randy Simmons was the first LAPD SWAT officer to be killed in the line of duty as a result of an eleven hour hostage standoff in Winnetka, Ca. Randy had a great career in law enforcement and he did great things in the community in which he took an oath to protect and serve. Many people and organizations have honored Randy posthumously for his heroism as a police officer and for the things that he did off duty. The man behind the badge was a true hero, a positive role model and a constant mentor for “at risk” youth. Randy had a huge heart that was filled with love, faith, hope, commitment, loyalty and trust. He committed his life to things of God and extended his hands to the less fortunate. He was particularly passionate about helping children in low income neighborhoods. He believed that if enough people volunteered a little time to mentoring kids that it would change the behavior and attitudes of children, thus providing hope for a brighter future.
